COMENIUS MEETING IN KATOWICE

We are all very happy here in Katowice to be the host of the very first meeting of our new project. We can't wait to meet the teachers of all our partner schools!

Greek pupils' projects for the solar system.








                                                        

From the beginning of history some distinguished people stood out in helping our society to evolve so as to reach its current form.
Astronomers
                                1.  ARISTARCHUS OF SAMOS

Aristarchus of Samos was an ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician. He first argued that the sun is the center of the universe and the earth goes round its axis, and he also interpreted the cycle of the seasons of the year.

  2. CLAUDIUS PTOLEMAEUS  

                                               
Claudius Ptolemy was a natural philosopher. He believed the Earth is global and - largest of all the celestial bodies.
                                                    3HIPPARCHUS

Hipparchus was an astronomer, geographer and mathematician. He estimated the diameter of the Moon and the distance from the Earth.
He also invented the scale of sizes of the stars according to their brightness, which is still used today.




The students of  sixth grade  show the procession and Earth's rotation in the imaginary orbit around the Sun.







This is fantastic news for our school communities - our project has been officially approved! On September 1st five schools from: Poland, England, Lithuania, Greece and Turkey will start working on "Minds Without Borders".
